Today is December 16, which means that we have this essay plus two others to finish out 2022. I’ve been writing about specific scriptures for a while, and though I’ve enjoyed doing that, it’s now time to end that practice and get back to foundational issues in restoration thought. And that has me very excited.

But it doesn’t have everyone very excited, apparently, since a few different people have once again asked me why I don’t just write about the scriptures all the time, like a Come Follow Me essay series or something. This also happened before, after I wrote the original scripture study posts which followed a long string of the normal essays.

So I thought I’d respond to these questions in a more extended way here, in preparation for returning to the normal course of essays which will begin again on January 6.

Come Follow Me

If I’m counting right, then the year 2023 marks the fifth year of the Come Follow Me system for organizing gospel study in the church. We’ve now been through all the major divisions of the scriptures, and now we’ll be hitting the New Testament again, the first time we’ve repeated one of those divisions.
